ABOUT HOLBEIN

Holbein is a Japanese company with Head Offices in Osaka, Japan. The Company was formed at the turn of the century and took the name of the European artist in the 1930's. From that time, Holbein has been a significant factor in Southeast Asia, holding 65% to 75% of the Japanese professional market. They have a sizeable share of other Asian markets, Australia, South Africa and Europe. Until HK Holbein of Burlington, Vermont introduced Holbein color lines to the American market, importations from Holbein into this market had been limited to accessories, brushes, rice paper, etc.

Holbein is a member of the Art & Creative Materials Institute (ACMI), a world leader in toxicological services to the makers of Artist Materials. All Holbein art materials are labelled in conformance with the ASTM D-4236 Health Standard and the Labelling for Hazardous Art Materials Act (LHAMA). The ACMI "HL" seal designates ACMI Certification which in turn designates the highest possible standard of toxicological awareness, applicable health labelling and conformance to regulatory legislation.

One of the world's largest manufacturers of professional art materials, Holbein Artist Materials Inc., the trading Company, and Holbein Works Ltd., the color factory, employ 220 people including twelve (12) color chemists. In addition, Holbein has 40 subsidiary and associated companies manufacturing everything from framing materials and manikins to quality metal and porcelain accessories, paper products, etching presses and the world's most versatile airbrushes.

Dedicated to excellence, Holbein believes there is no substitute for quality. It is an axiom to be remembered by the artist and those who supply the artist.
