PAINTING MEDIUMS
Spirit Of Turpentine/Spirit of Petroleum - SPIRIT OF TURPENTINE is an extraction of resin from pine trees, & the SPIRIT OF PETROLEUM is a refined petroleum oil. Both are most effective in thinning out colors and provide a smoothness in application, similar to water color painting. They are volatile and upon drying, evaporate quickly, thus imparting a dull mat finish. Ideal for all work from rough sketching and underpainting, to finished professional painting.
Venetian Turpentine - A heavy thick and resinous liquid, made from European pine trees and used in oil mediums, varnishes and resins. As a medium, it offers transparency and a glossy surface to oil painting. Because it has a characteristic of yellowing with time, it should be used in copmbination with dry oils like stand oil or volatile oils like turpentine.
Spike Lavender Oil - Distilled from a variety of the lavender plant family, this fragrant oil has properties similar to turpentine, but has a greater tendancy to oxidize or gum, but does not evaporate as readily.
Linseed & Poppy Oil Purified - LINSEED OIL is an extraction of the seeds of Flax. POPPY OIL is of the seeds of Poppy. Both of which are used for thinning oil colors. Their use as a thinner imparts a natural lustre to the painting. However, Linseed Oil is a vegetable based oil, and a slight residue of solid oil is left when dry.. This condition sometimes causes a yellowing problem with the passing of time. Poppy Oil does not have this disadvantage, and most discerning Artists use Poppy Oil for this reason.
Sun Thickened Linseed Oil & Sun thickened Poppy Oil - Both are made by the orthodox method of exposure to the sunfor prolonged periods. The increased viscosity improves drying, levelling and protective characteristics. Used for oil mediums, varnishes and glazes, it may be diluted with turpentine or petroleum oils.
Stand Linseed Oil - A heavy viscous oil for blending with oil color to produce surface transparency and brightness and a smoothness which enhances the levelling of the brush stroke. With a greatly reduced tendancy to yellow with age, it's mixed viscosity may be softened with turpentine or spirits of petroleum
Painting Oil & Lesolvent de Colore - LESOLVENT is an ideal mixture of Spirit of Turpentine, Poppy Oil, Siccatif and Resin. The ingredients of PAINTING OIL are the same as Lesolvent, except Linseed Oil is mixed instead of Poppy Oil. Both Lesolvent and Painting Oil, are properly compounded for ready-to-use purpose, thus saving time and labor necessary for mixing the various oils. The use of these mediums will speed the drying time and add vivid lustre and smoothness to your painting application. Lesolvent is recommended for the artist, andPainting Oil for the beginner and student.
